This intro-level class covers the foundations of carving freshly cut wood as we make a few joyful crafts from small diameter wood (aka “sticks”). Our projects will give us the opportunity to better understand wood fibers and learn how to carve them effectively using safe knife techniques. Along the way we’ll discuss sourcing materials and learn how to maintain our carving knives.
Derek Brabender is an artisan green woodworker based in Stoughton Wisconsin who specializes in creating beautiful and functional everyday items with hand tools and on a foot-powered spring pole lathe. All of Derek’s work is produced with great attention to workmanship and respect to the environment.
