Lawn Chair Night in Downtown Decorah: Emmy Woods & The Red Pine Ramblers

August 8, 2024

Free. Family friendly. Almost every Thursday night this summer in Downtown Decorah!

Join for an evening of music on Washington Street, right outside of Impact Coffee, featuring Emmy Woods & The Red Pine Ramblers! This Lawn Chair Night is sponsored by Decorah Pride.

Emmy Woods was born and raised in rural North Dakota and currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota. With hints of country, folk, and blues, Emmy’s songs showcase both her knack for storytelling, her strengths in musical artistry, and an impressive vocal range and ability cultivated by years of practice. While Emmy has been writing songs for over 20 years, her first collection of songs, tristia bella, as well as her albums The Manifold and Delirium were not released until 2020. In spring of 2022 she accepted one of her first performances in nearly ten years at Mojo Coffee in Northeast Minneapolis. In a serendipitous twist of fate, Woodzen frontman Jake Johnson (violin & guitar) stopped in for coffee accompanied by bandmates Bob Delage (bass) and Brody Kucera (percussion). Dazzled by her unique yet accessible sound and songs, they invited Emmy to collaborate and the Red Pine Ramblers were born. Just over a year later, the group has grown to include Lydia Lecher (keyboard), and continues to gain momentum with their genre bending sound.

Lawn Chair Night has been a program of Downtown Decorah Betterment for more than 25 years. It’s now made possible by DDBA in partnership with Visit Decorah Tourism, Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, and Impact Coffee. The 2024 season is generously supported by top sponsors AJ Realty and Oneota Community Food Co-op… along with 15 supporting sponsors for specific nights throughout the season. This free, public event features both local and regional talent.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and their toe-tapping’ shoes. In 2024, two performances will take place outside of the Winneshiek County Courthouse and 8 will be on Washington Street outside of Impact Coffee. For the Washington Street shows, attendees are encouraged to purchase a beverage at Impact Coffee, the event partner.

In the event of rain, the Courthouse events will be cancelled or moved to a different location and the Washington Street events will be moved inside Impact Coffee. Rain announcements will be made on Facebook’s Visit Decorah page and the Downtown Decorah Betterment page.
