Join for an evening of music on Washington Street with Kristen Ford! This Lawn Chair Night is sponsored by Decorah Pride.
Kristen Ford is Nashville based, but road tested across 48 states & 10 countries. She is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, third-generation trouble maker, and bridger of the gap between worlds. She was raised by a white mother, and a black father, a lifelong singer. At age 14 Ford picked up an acoustic guitar and started writing songs, followed by attending a rock n roll camp for girls, led by musical icon June Millington. Coming out at age 18, navigating life as a biracial, queer girl was made all the more interesting by yearly moves (not an army brat, but a higher education brat) where Ford had lived in 6 states by age 18. Following in her grandmother’s lead, who played the organ professionally since the age of 13 (the one-man band of the 1940s), Ford uses her hands, feet, and mouth to layer vocals, affected guitar, and beatboxing into a lush and energetic live looping show.
Lawn Chair Night has been a program of Downtown Decorah Betterment for more than 25 years. It’s now made possible by DDBA in partnership with Visit Decorah Tourism and Impact Coffee, along with generous contributions from top sponsor AJ Realty and more than 10 supporting sponsors. This free, public event features both local and regional talent. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and their toe tappin’ shoes. In 2023, three performances will take place at the Courthouse and ten will be on Washington Street. For the Washington Street shows, attendees are encouraged to purchase a beverage at Impact Coffee, our event partner.
In the event of rain, the Courthouse events will be cancelled or moved to a different location and the Washington Street events will be moved inside Impact Coffee. Rain announcements will be made on Facebook’s Visit Decorah page and the Downtown Decorah Betterment page.
