Ride2Education Celebration

May 6, 2023

7-9pm

Participate in the Rochester2Decorah bike ride and then join in the celebration afterwards!

Starting at the Rochester Farmers Market, bicyclists will make the journey down to Decorah, IA to fundraise to support a cohort of Afghan students at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee who were evacuated after the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021. Together UWM, the Afghan Student Partnership of Milwaukee (APSOM), financial aid, and private scholarships have covered the students’ tuition and some of their living expenses for the next four years. The R2R team hopes to raise a total of $10,000 to help the students meet ongoing financial needs that are not covered by other funding sources. This could include textbooks, school supplies, and pocket money.  The cohort of UWM Afghan students were pursuing their education before their lives were upended by the Taliban and continue to pursue it for the good of their families, community, and country. R2R hopes you can join them in supporting these students. Make a donation here.

There are multiple ways to get involved! Bicyclists can ride the full route, a 6-mile loop to and from the Farmers Market at the Fairgrounds, the Root River Trail section (12-24 mi), or join for the last few miles. We also need support crew who will be at the various rest points, transportation for riders back to Rochester at the end of the day, and other miscellaneous tasks. Individuals can learn more, donate, and sign up to be involved at ridestorights.org.
