Word Salad, Deocrah’s own literary open mic, will be held Tuesday, December 13th, at Pulpit Rock Brewery in Decorah. The guest host will be esteemed local author, Nancy Barry. This event is free and open to the public and invites local writers of all ages to share their work. Open to stories, poems, essays, comedy, and “I’m not really sure what this is.” Anyone who would like to read can arrive at 6:45pm to signup. The show begins at 7pm. Free admission.
This event was started by local author and comedian June Melby in 2018. “I have always loved open mics. I just enjoy hearing what people have to say, whether they are new to writing or lifelong professionals. I love it all. But you never know what you’re going to get each night, it’s a beautiful mix. That’s why I call it Word Salad.”
Each month there is an optional theme. This month’s theme: BELLS. Mention the theme in your writing, take home a small prize.
Generally held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, the December reading was moved up a week due to Christmas. Next Word Salad: Tues., Jan. 17.
