May 1, 2025

5:30-6:45pm

Upper Explorerland’s Safe Routes to School is partnering with Decorah Parks and Recreation, Decorah Iowa Scholastic MTB Race Team (DIRT), Decorah Human Powered Trails (DHPT), Decorah Rotary Club, and local EMS members from fire, police and sheriff departments, to offer a bicycle safety and bicycle maintenance event on Thursday, May 1, 2025.  The event begins at 5:30pm in the Decorah City Hall Parking Lot, 400 Claiborne Drive.

Participants are encouraged to bring their bicycles for instruction on basic bicycle maintenance and a short community bike ride.  This event is open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult.  Families are welcome to bring their own picnic.  Cookies will be provided.  Bicycle helmets will be given out to those in need.

Old, broken, or unwanted bicycles to be donated for recycling, upcycling, or repurposing are welcome.  Bicycles to be recycled can be dropped off in the back parking lot of Decorah City Hall (400 Claiborne Drove) at designated bike racks the week leading up to, or at, the event.  Bicycles can also be dropped off anytime between April 27th-May 29th at Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission’s back parking lot (406 Winnebago St, Decorah).
