This Saturday morning, May 17th in downtown Decorah, will be the third year for the Cops n’ Rodders Car & Motorcycle Show. The event, which brings more than 100 classic and unique cars to town, fills Water Street from the intersection of State to the intersection of Mechanic. This is the first year that the event has included motorcycles. The event is hosted by the Decorah Police Department and The Elks Lodge.
Gates open at 8AM for car and bike owners. Registration will be located at Winnebago and Water Street intersection and will be facilitated by the Elks Lodge volunteers and others. Cost is $10 per vehicle. Registration starts at 8AM and remains open until 11AM. Trophies are awarded at 1PM. Judges will recognize the first one hundred registrants with a dash plaque. They will also give awards for Ladies’ Choice, Cops’ Choice, and Judges’ Choice.
All funds raised by the event go to the Decorah Police K9 Program. The program was started in 2021 and each year all of the expenses for the police dog (vet costs, food, equipment, training, certifications) are funded entirely by private donations. K9 Loki, a four-year-old German Shepherd, has only one handler: Police Officer Nicholas Yaneff. Together they work in narcotics detection, tracking, and article recovery. K9 Loki and Officer Yaneff will both be at the Cops & Rodder’s event to meet with the public.
Officer Yaneff appreciates all the work that goes into coordinating the event. “It’s a great opportunity to gather as a community, hear from passionate vehicle owners who have worked hard to restore and preserve a piece of history, and raise money for the K9 Unit which serves the City of Decorah and surrounding areas.”
Generous event sponsorships provided by LA Communications (KVIK), Mracek Plumbing & Heating, Crown Electric, Copyland, Kirkeby Welding, Decorah Auto Body, Sundance Travel, and individual support from Mike Voltmer, Lori & Rich Bollman, Vic Pinckney, Charis & Terry Hovden, and Jeff & Leah McCrea.
