Vesterheim invites everyone to a free Foot-Notes dance on the new Commons patio! Rain location will be inside the Commons. Kick up your heels to this fantastic Decorah-area Scandinavian dance band, or sit back and tap your toes to the music. Bring your own lawn chair to guarantee a seat.
Stop by early and enjoy a meal from Papusas Wendy Food Truck, starting at 5:30 p.m. There will be outside and indoor seating options to eat. Find out more about this delicious traditional food from El Salvador.
The Foot-Notes band was founded in 1991, and current band members include Beth Hoven Rotto, Jon Rotto, Erik Sessions, and Nina Sessions. Collecting tunes from a variety of local musicians, the Foot-Notes are known as bearers of Norwegian-American dance music traditions that reach back to the era of house parties and barn dances. They regularly perform in Iowa at dances in the historic two-room schoolhouse in Highlandville and at Nordic Fest in Decorah.
This event is free and open to the public and is offered in conjunction with Vesterheim’s 2025 Folk Art Instructor Retreat, where more than two dozen instructors from across the country gather at Vesterheim to discuss teaching traditional handcraft.
