Making Creative Kolrosing Tools and Using Them with Scott Johnson

September 10, 2025 - September 14, 2025

9am-5pm

The first two days of the class will be spent making kolrosing tools. The instructor will make a variety of tools for stippling and shading, and students will learn to make these tools and design their own. Students will also be making a kolrosing knife or knives.

The next three days will be filled with fun instruction on creativity and skill development. Plus, the instructor made three beautiful projects to help students develop creative kolrosing skills.

Students will be kolrosing a spoon, spatula, and a shrink box/pot.

Scholarships including local standby option are available. Find information here.

Scott Johnson discovered kolrosing when, in March of 2016, he attended a class at Vesterheim, instructed by Darlene Fossum-Martin. With Darlene’s instruction and encouragement, kolrosing became a true passion for Scott. He has developed many tools to aid in his kolrosing process. He is a Vesterheim Gold Medalist in Woodworking and in Knifemaking. He loves sharing the art of kolrosing with others and seeing their smiles when they discover the magic. Scott and his wife Marlene live near Atkinson, a small town in north central Nebraska, located at the edge of the Sand Hills. He works full-time as a natural gas service tech.
