(OVCO) will present its Season 11 Finale on Sunday, April
27, 2025, at the Decorah High School Auditorium. The orchestra’s performance
will be delayed from its normal time to start at 4:30 p.m. due to the Luther
College scheduling of Rick Steves. OVCO
Music Director Matthew Cody will again be on the podium to conduct the
orchestra in a program that will conclude with Howard Hanson’s deeply evocative
Symphony No. 2. “Romantic.” The concert opens with Overture by African-American
composer and violinist Jessie Montgomery. The first half of the performance
will also include the great Viennese composer Johannes Brahms’s Variations on a
Theme by Haydn.
The
Finale concert will mark the opening of bidding in the 2025 Online Auction
benefiting the orchestra. Auction bidding will be open on April and end on May
4th. The auction items feature a violin (along with a bow and case) finished
by Harmony, Minnesota luthier, Mason Weedman; hats and purses by artist Bonnie
Koloc; dinner for two at Rubaiyat, composer dolls crocheted by Nicole Cody; and Ukrainian
Pysanky Easter eggs by Pam Butters among other items. The items will be
available for bidding on the GalaBid site at https://app.galabid.com/ovcoauction/items.
