Rosemaling: A Cupboard, a Brush and Hans Belle with Pam Rucinkski

July 20, 2025 - July 23, 2025

9am-5pm

This four-day in-person class will paint a Bostkast (comb cupboard) specially designed for us by woodworker extraordinaire, Mike Lusk, using the Hans Belle cupboard in the museum for inspiration. The class will be taught in oils.

During the class, we will explore the origins of the Lesja school of rosemaling with a deep dive into its differences as found in the Gudbrandsdal Valley, centered in Lillehammer.

This class will be taught by Pam Rucinkski who has been rosemaling since 1974. She teaches all over the United States, has taught in Japan, and has traveled to Russia for folk art studies. Pam received her Vesterheim Gold Medal in 1995, in part for her Gudbrandsdal painting. She has developed her own subtle variations over the 20 years she has painted this style, looking to Jacob Klukstad and baroque wood carving for her inspiration.

Scholarships including local standby option are available. Find information here.
