DECORAH — The Decorah Town and Country Garden Club will host “Saving the Soil: An Act of Reciprocity” at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at First Lutheran Church, 604 W. Broadway St. The program will feature Jodi Enos-Berlage, Ph.D., a Winneshiek County farmer, Luther College biology professor, scientist, educator and artist whose work focuses on soil health, water quality and regenerative agriculture. The presentation will explore soil as both a “life source” and the world’s largest water purifier. Attendees will have opportunities to interact directly with soil, learn about soil loss across the Midwest and discuss ways people can restore reciprocal relationships with the land. Enos-Berlage has led water quality research in the Dry Run Creek watershed and serves as team lead for the northeast Iowa-based Regenerating Soil and Community Project, which works with local farmers and landowners. She also recently collaborated on the local artistic performance “Soul of Soil.” The event is hosted by the Decorah Town and Country Garden Club and is open to the public.
