Join us online for an afternoon of meringues with a battle between the Norwegian kvæfjordkake and the Swedish pinocchio. Instructor Patrice Johnson will show you how to make both meringues and it will be up to you which one will come out victorious, even though the ones who get to eat the meringues will be the real winners. This Vesterheim cooking class is designed as a small-group cook-along, and we invite exchange between the instructor and students in order to build community around food traditions. In this same spirit of sharing, we invite the whole family to experience this collaborative cooking and learning process. Only one registration is needed per household. Patrice Johnson, AKA Nordic food geek and meatball historian, is an author, teacher, and speaker who specializes in Nordic and regional foodways. She is currently writing her third cookbook, My Little Northern Kitchen, and is the author of Land of 10,000 Plates and Jul: Swedish American Holiday Traditions. Patrice writes a weekly food and culture column for her hometown newspaper, and teaches cooking classes both online and in person. She lives in the Twin Cities with her husband and their three cats.
