Get a glimpse of a collegiate study-abroad experience in Oaxaca, Mexico, at the next meeting of the Luther College Woman’s Club, to be held Tuesday, October 20, at 1:30 pm at Shirley Baker Commons, Baker Village, Decorah. Luther students Charlie Krob and Vienna Bell will present “Spanish for Medical (Pre) Professionals: Students’ Clinical and Cultural Experience in Oaxaca, Mexico” during the meeting. The presentation will dive into their January-term study-abroad experience, which included a week of clinical rotations in Santa María Coyotepec. The clinicians there, Charlie told Luther magazine, “taught me something more impactful than medical terminology or conjugations of Spanish verbs—they helped me learn how to slow down, to savor simplicity, to appreciate the quiet parts of life just as much as the exciting ones.” About the presenters Charlie Krob of Mount Vernon, Iowa, is a third-year neuroscience/pre-medicine major and Spanish minor at Luther. She is an EMT and, on campus, serves as co-president of the Norse Student Emergency Management club, an executive officer for the Health Science and Neuroscience clubs, and a member of Nordic Choir. Vienna Bell of South Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a third-year biology/pre-physical therapy major at Luther. A certified nurse aide, she has previously worked at Highlands Senior Living Decorah and currently serves as co-president of the Norse Student Emergency Management club. About the Luther College Woman’s Club The Luther College Woman’s Club has long baked treats for Luther students, with all proceeds raised funding scholarships for deserving students. To date, the club has raised more than $325,000 in scholarship funds. All individuals from Decorah and surrounding communities are invited to participate.
